About Phoenix Reisen
The German tour operator Phoenix Reisen was founded in 1973. In 1988 they started cruising the oceans with the charter of the ship Maxim Gorkiy. Starting as a pure ocean shipping company, Phoenix Reisen expanded its range in 1993 to include the popular river cruises. The four well-known ocean liners are now joined by more than 30 river ships as well as a few smaller ships for exceptional destinations. The shipping company is still in family hands and attaches great importance to a friendly and pleasant atmosphere aboard their ships. Language on board of all ships is German.
The M/S Calypso has been one of the most popular ships in the Phoenix fleet for many years. Due to its size, the ship can also cruise on smaller and less frequented waterways. On board you will experience the warmth of a familiar ship of the good middle class. The Dutch owner and captain and his wife provide a casual holiday atmosphere in which you can take a break from everyday life. At a length of only about 75 m the M/S Calypso can accommodate up to 90 passengers.
Life on Board
Like on all Phoenix ships, the atmosphere on board the M/S Calypso is cozy and informal. The dress code on board is casual, at the traditional captain's dinner guests are expected to wear a more elegant wardrobe, but no evening wear is needed here either. Theme, quiz and dance evenings take place on most journeys, often with live music. There is a small selection of books and board games. The language on board is German, currency is Euro.
All cabins aboard the M/S Calypso are outside cabins with a large window that can be opened. The cabins are between 11-12 square meter twin cabins and equipped with shower/WC, adjustable air conditioning, TV, hairdryer, mini safe, towel for sun loungers, small daily newspaper and 230V AC. During the day a bed is prepared for seating.
Food and Beverages
Look forward to a rich breakfast buffet as well as delicious lunch and dinner in the form of multi-course meals. The well experienced kitchen and service team will spoil you on board the M/S Calypso with all the amenities that the kitchen has to offer. If you wish you can also participate in the afternoon coffee and lunch snack. In addition on mostly cruises, there are theme nights, the captain's reception and the captain's dinner with a festive menu.
Through a variety of shore excursions, you have the opportunity to get to know the country and it’s people along the route. The excursion program is adapted to the length of stay of the ship and is accompanied by qualified tour guides. The excursions are usually in German language. The shore excursions can be booked directly on board or partly in advance online at the shipping company. Payment is on board.
